Lens & Learn - Inspiring Kids with Photography

March 6, 2010
Boys & Girls Club, Las Vegas

One of the great things that you do as photographers is give back – to your communities, to those in need, to enable us to imagine a better world. Inspired by your giving, Pictage has organized a unique opportunity for underprivileged kids to learn the power of photography to change perspectives and create a new vision, a new dream.

On Saturday March 6th, we've partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Canon and a group of Pictage photographers to teach the art of photography to a group of about 100 kids between the ages of 8 and 15. The workshop program will include camera basics and technique taught at one of the Boys & Girls Club facilities in Las Vegas, and then we'll take the kids out on location to a natural reserve where we'll have outdoor shooting setups and exercises to enable them to explore new perspectives through the lens and test their newly-learned technique. We've visited some of the kids who will be participating in the event and they are really excited to have this opportunity to learn from leading photographers and have a fun day out.

After the workshop is complete, we'll take the images that the kids have shot during the day, edit them, and then design and deliver a photobook of the day for them and their families to enjoy. And because a big part of the day is to inspire the kids to great endeavors, we're delighted to have partnered with WPPI to bring a number of the kids and their parents along to the WPPI Awards on Wednesday March 10th, so they can experience great photographers work and give thanks back to you.
